Quest to make the perfect Espresso

About a year ago Ceri asked me for a Gaggia Espresso machine for her birthday – so off we trot down to House of Fraser in Reading where they had a great home sale and we picked up a Gaggia Classic for an absolute bargin!

Like anyone would, I brought it home, brought a tin of ground Illy coffee, filled up the filter holder and switched it on – hey presto the perfect cup of coffee…..how wrong I was!

It wasn’t until months later, when I was invited to a friends house (a VMware Consultant) who not only was good with VMware, but knew rather a lot about making great coffee too!

So after taking on lots of advice, and purchasing a burr grinder to grind my own beans, I was still failing miserably, so Steve popped around my house one evening and for two hours we ground and made coffee to a lot better standard than what I was previously producing (i.e. drinkable!)

I’m still learning now (the grind, packing pressure, type of bean, etc – so much to remember), but Steve did send me a useful internet link here

So every weekend and sometimes during the week my wife can have a “good” (not quite great yet) cup of coffee – Thanks Steve!
